Thread: Hand Tying

    Default Hand Tying

Or should I say - lack of vice tying - yup - by hand - bobbin, hook, materials, hand.

Got the dumb notion the other nite to give it a go. #18 Dry hook, pheas. tippets, charcoal darning chord, black hackle - came up with a basic black gnat/midge. Killer on some late year trout around here.
Yup - it worked .... now I still have a dumb notion of trying other flies - by hand.

Just wondering - if anyone else tries/does this.

You must have missed my Luddite challenge last year. I received flies from several folks, all tied in hand. Roy Christie used no tools at all, as did a couple of the other guys, biting off the thread. Roy's been tying without a vise for years. Sukhoid Dave, the winner, did a Kinneo with married wings that was very nice. If you really want to see what can be done without a vise, check out Wolfgang here: [url=http://hem.bredband.net/classicflies/:b5d8a]http://hem.bredband.net/classicflies/[/url:b5d8a]
I hope to do the challenge again this summer, so give it a go. The prize is what I can afford at that moment. That can vary.
