    Default Magic heads

At the fly fishing show in Chicago this past weekend Marc Petitjean was demonstrating his magic head. I was really impressed with the action this device gave streamer fliers. Has anyone tried this device? If so where did you buy them? I tried to buy some at the show, but his checkout girl would not take a debit card for only $12.00. Good luck to them at shows with that attitude.

Feathercraft has them. Some of the sponsors may have them here as well.

Orvis carries them in their new 2006 catalog. They are expensive at 6 heads for around $6. Too rich for my cheap blood. 8T

You had better learn to be a happy camper. You only get one try at this campground and it's a real short camping season.

Yeah, too expensive for me too. I use sequins for the same effect.

    FF,

How do you use the sequin? Are you just threading it on like a bead, and tying it in at the head so it sits perpendicular to the shank?

    Thanks,

How do you use the sequin?
Yes, you can thread 1-3 onto the hook behind a small bead and then thread wrap it tight against the bead. The bead provides support and clearance for the hook eye. More than one sequin proves extra strength as does a dab of superglue.

If you want crazy, rapala action then glue the sequins on a small pin against the pin head and then lash the pin to the hook shank so you form a lip. Tune the fly by bending the pin a bit.

A novel use is to thread them onto mono and then have it trail the fly like a parachute.

The sequin idea is great!! Tied some Clouser's with sequines behind the eye and caught my biggest flyrod LM Bass Sat. About 6lbs and got a pic too. Thanks for sharing the idea.

Do you guys have any pictures of the "sequin flies"? I've been tying pop lips patterns for a couple years. I have good luck with a small all white one. Wicked action. But I'd love to try out these sequin flies.
I especially love the sequin on a pin idea.

Take a look at the following URL:

Feather Craft carries them. Greg lives nearby and gave our fly club a flytying and water side demo of some of his patterns, and they really work great.
