    Default Brown Owl

I liked the looks of the Brown Owl streamer shown in the Fly Fisherman article on the Rapid River in Maine. The tying recipe was listed but no instructions. I am curious to know how the gray Mallard flank is supposed to look on the back? Is it supposed to be slim or flare out a bit?
Also, are there some good references or recipes for streamers from this region?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Bryan,

I don't get that magazine, but from looking at a picture of the streamer in Hunter's / Stone River Outfitters catalog, it looks like a flatwing style streamer. You can find tying instructions as well as more flatwing and other streamer patterns at this site.

Thanks Mark and Panman! Both sites were very helpful. The Brown Owl is a flatwing style streamer. I look forward to tying a few.
