Spout emerger
hook = TMC 2487 18-22, scud hook straight eye
thread = olive 6/0
tail/shuck = tan or rust antron 5-7 strands
body = light olive/grey dubbing, or thread
thorax = slightly darker dubbing
wing post = white foam cylinder
hackle = med dun
Mount the hoook, wrap the first third of the shank with a base of thread. Mount the foam post about 1/3 down the shank, wing forward.
Cut the tag end of the post at an angle and bind with thread, forming a tapered underbody.
Wrap thread towards the tail and tie in 5-7 strands of antron as a trailing shuck. Dub a slender tapered body forward towards the wing post.
Wrap the base of the foam post with a few turns of thread to build a foundation for the hackle (parachute style).
Mount the hackle and add a small dubbed thorax wrapped figure 8 style around the post. Wrap the hackle, parachute style, fairly sparse, 2-3 turns. Wrap forward and build a neat head, tie off with half hitch or whip finish.
Trim the foam post about 1/16" above the hackle, trim the trailing shuck about 1 1/2 the hook gap.
Midge pattern is the same but all black.
I agree with kengore's post about materials and directions. It can also be tied with a biot body and peacock herl for the thorax. I use the herl on most my sprout emergers (except when I am tying them in 22's) and sometimes use a biot body. On midge patterns I sometimes leave the tailing shuck off. I usually tie them between 16-20 but do tie some 22's.
No matter how you tie it, this fly really works and is one my goto flies for bwo and midge hatches. I frequently find the emerger is a better poroducer even the there are duns on the water.

I'll second Mark's suggestion about the biot body. I really like the way goose or duck biot looks. I will have to try the herl thorak, sounds like a winner.
I also sometimes put a drop of red or yellow fabric paint on top of the trimmed foam post to increase visiblity....
