Wish ya great fishing,Bill
i think it is the wooley bugger
The hints by LF ....
We had a woolly worm ....it was called that..so it shouldn't be that...
I can't believe she hasn't fished the woolly bugger..[or worm]...or scud
How long ago is recently?
It must be in the archieves...

I am going to guess Pheasant tail nymph.
Well, the hint may be big, but I'm still lost. I think the woolly worm is a pretty good guess. It's a wet fly, it's recently a fly of the week. I could see that some experienced fly fishers might not use them. But the fly of the week is called the "woolly worm", so the "not by the same name" part of the hint has me stumped.
It could have been featured in the "Old Flies" column, but I have the same problem with the "not by the same name" hint.
OK folks, we have at least 2 winners on this one. Scud is the correct answer.
We had a Pinky Shrimp here a couple of weeks ago, and it sure looks like a scud. And no,
I've never fished one. Yet.

I have never seen a scud classified as a wet fly until now .

Hey Robert? How exactly would you have classified it? A dry? A nymph? Streamer?
Emerger? Soft Hackle? Hmmmmm?

Well , I see that most retailers list scuds under nymphs but a nymph is an insect when a scud is a crustacean. I think they do that because they are around the same sizes but since it is a freshwater shrimp, and like saltwater shrimp, I still think of it as a crustacean. I don't think the retailers will add a separate "crustacean" category just for scuds and crayfish and snails though .
And sowbugs, Phil .
