    Default Tying for first time!

    Hello everybody,

    I posted here about a week ago regarding things I need to tie. Well I did it and now I'm learning how to do it. It's so much fun that I can't stop now so thanks everybody for helping to get me started.

    You are now, pardon the expression, "hooked".
    When you get in too deep, let me know and I'll give you the number for Fly Tiers Anonymous. They have a 12 step tutorial - oops, I mean program.

    My wife went to Country Line Dancers Anonymous. It was a two-step program.

    save some of those flies and put them away. A year from now take them out. You will be amazed at how your skills improved. I had thirty or so of these. After a good laugh I dubbed them with dog hair and they have caught trout for me. Have fun and play!

    Congrats (& condolences) ......
    ... no matter how 'not-right' they may look to you ... give 'em a cast - you'll be surprised.

    Hooked indeed. I started tying this summer and I have learned a alot throughout that short period. Thanks to some other fly tiers advice, I kept my first flies and I will frame them soon for a lifelong memory. One of the things I still don't quite understand is why most tiers go out buy a fancy vise, I bought a wheel vise for 10 bucks and its treating me really good, I think .

    Hey brhokla,

    Congratulations. You have just started a wonderful hobby that will increase your fly fishing satisfaction ten fold. Take the advice of the earlier posters and save some of your first efforts. BTW, you have also extended your fishing season to twelve months a year. There is nothing more satisfying than sitting at your vise and listining to the winter wind outside. Enjoy! 8T

    You had better learn to be a happy camper. You only get one try at this campground and it's a real short camping season.

    brhokla;
    The next step is Parneli's CD. For a couple of bucks you can't beat it. He's in the Fly Anglers Forum.
