    Default New Fly.....Old Friend

While developing a new fly - a very big one at that, I was taking a few photos of them and found Angel to be well positioned to give me a hand showing it off

This fly is just over 10 inches long and is essentially hollow. For now I am calling it a "Flathead Fatfish" and it is a saltwater baitfish imitation.

Construction: 8/0 Hook, Yak hair and synthetic flash material bunches are laced around the periphery of a foam disk. This technique allows this fly to have a huge profile, yet remain ultra-lightweight and maintain castablility. This fly is designed to be worked behind a popper head. However, it just may work OK all by itself too. Three of these have been sent out to a guide for offshore testing.

I don't know what she's fishing for, but with a fly that big...it probably isn't very bright to be wading in the water.

    hikepat,

If that's you're sister let American Angler mag know. They are trying to track down the Hardy Angel and have promised a column (in September I think) with the details. If they include a phone number I predict it will be the highest selling issue in the history of the mag!

I looked at the recent Hardy catalog and there was nary a picture of Angel. This is a corporate booboo of the worst kind. How could they?

What a coincidence! This morning I was reading Paul Marriner's : Modern Atlantic Salmon Flies and just finished the chapter on Black Bear or "Butt" series hair wings.
As Paul writes:" Often, they are referred
to simply by the colour of the "but",e.g.,
    Green Butt or Red Butt.
Rich , If you did not name this one yet,
    perhaps a Blue Butt?
