While we are on the topic of Black Bear hair, does anyone have a trick to remove the natural oils from the hair? The last bear hide given to me sooooooooo greasy, I salted it for 7 weeks to dry the skin, but the heavy oil still remains in the hair. 20 Mule Team Borax didn't quite cut it.

Whenever I need to cut grease, I use DAWN dishwashing soap. It's also the "wash" I use to kill the acid when I tan a hide. Remember to work the water out and break the hide and it will remain butter soft.

If you've got a friend with a black Lab. The fur is almost a dead match for bear. A couple of little snips from the tail and your in business. It'll grow back you know!
