Default Flies for Glen Canyon trout

A childhood spin-fishing buddy of mine moved to Arizona a while ago. After he moved we kept in touch and we both got into fly fishing. I am also starting to tie a few flies. I just found out that he is going to fish the Glen Canyon area near the dam sometime in august. I would like to try to tie up some flies that might(considering my ability)up his chances for landing some trout. As neither of us have fished the area befor I'm not sure what to tie.I did a search on google for the area but didn't come up with anything on fly patterns, but saw something about barbless hooks. If that law pertains to the area that he is fishing, can I use a regular hook with the barb mashed flat or does it have to be a truely barbless hook? Any ideas for drys, wets, nymphs, or whatever works there would be greatly appreciated.

top producers are zebra midges #18-24. black thread w/ copper, silver and red wire.
red thread w/ silver and copper. gray thread w/ peral kf rib. w/ beadheads and w/out.

scuds too I suppose, but most fish hit the zebra midges.

large attractors work too as the standard rig is dry dropper.

mash the barbs w/ yer hemos, pliers or vise jaws.

fishing should be good to great that time of year but it'll be one hot mofongo.

    Thanks Mikey,
That will keep me busy for a little while.
What size and pattern should the attractors be? I also found a dry fly called LJ's cutthroat candy(sz16); ever tried this one?
    Thanks Again

I haven't tried that particular pattern. I'd stick w/ stimis, wulffs, humpies and irresistables in #12 and 10. I also forgot to mention gray thread and silver wire.

some folk swear by buggers up there.
I'm not one of them. I swear by the zebra midge.

you can try glo-bugs and san juan worms too.

Ahhh, Lee's Ferry---one of my most favorites places.

As Mikey said--the Zebra midge is always a good producers...but also,

Try The Unbelievable It's to imitate Lees Ferry scuds that have dried on the rocks when the water level lowers and float on the surface of the rising water. A simple tie and it's Unbelievable!

You guys have been a great help. After reading your replies I wish that I could go too. I will do my best at tying some of each of these flies. I only hope they are good enough to fool a trout on the river.
Thanks for all of the help.
