    Default Spinning Deer Hair

I have finally broke down and attempted spinning deer hair.
The Dun Irresistable is my second attempt and the Olson's Deciever is my first.

I would really appreciate your opinions and like others it won't hurt my feelings to hear the bad as well as the good.

Hi Wooly...great job of spinning! It might just be the angle but, the irresistable looks like it could be trimmed more on the bottom so as not to interfere with the hook gape. It's fun huh!?....Jason

Feenom, Thanks for the reply. I think I agree about the Irresistable needing a little more off the bottom. I'll do that. One of my concerns was whether or not I was getting enough hair and packing it well enough. I don't have a packing tool. Just using my fingers.

    Wooly,
A friend of ours drilled some small holes in blocks of wood to use. We have used a ballpoint pen tube before. There are little brass thingies that look like a nail clipper with a hole in the jaws that we are glad we aquired.

Lee s, I've seen the clipper type in the catalogs and will probably get one. I tried the ball pin but the tip was too large.

As Feenom said they are fun. I'm going to do a mouse today (w/ears and nose). If it even comes close to looking good, I'll post it.

You could use a packing tool but I find that using your fingertips really lets you know how packed it is without damaging the job. Its somewhat akin to how wearing gloves lets you know exactly how well you are doing something with your hands.

Try both but I will bet you'll feel the same way and use your fingers.

Great job on learning to spin hair. Its great for so many flies and it impresses tiers that have yet to master it!

OK here's my mouse. I didn't put ears on it since I couldn't figure out a good material and how to get them in so that they would stay. The nose is a black opalescent glass bead.

Nice mouse. Looks like you have the density/packing part figured out.

Great job packing. I wish that my first attempt came out that good. It was a muddler that just looked like mud.

The hair packing tools are okay but I still like using my fingers. I bent too many hooks with the packing tools.
    Your hooks sharp????
