Thread: Well I'm back at it. This any good?

  1. Default Well I'm back at it. This any good?

Well after months of not tying I thought I'd give it a try again.

I tried a Pale Sulphur Spinner.
I think my poly wing is a bit far back but other than that it's not too bad.
    Opinions?
(Sorry for the crappy pics....still getting used to close-up's with newer camera)

Not bad Jim, to improve your next one, move the wings farther up on the hook and concentrate on creating an evenly tapered body. Proportions look about right. Hard to tell without seeing it though.

Not bad for your first one though! Keep it up!

Not too bad for the first one. As previously said, move the wings uo just a bit towards the eye and taper the body a bit more. Other wise it looks good! Not that I am an expert, just passing on what I have learned.
    Good luck!

BJ- Just saw your post. The sulpfur spinner is a rusty color as are most spinners. Not all, but most. That is a cool thing as you need to carry Rusty Spinners in several sizes and you have most of the different mayflies covered.
Here is a picture of a Rusty Spinner for you to look at. Kind of funny as I was just doing an order of 5 dozen for a fellow. Hope this helps. Ron

PS: Sorry the picture isn't that great. My camera isn't that great either.

Thanks Pats Man- Didn't know that ours is just a rusty color. Ron

PS: But he can use the picture to see how the body should look.

Yes and it is a nice picture. Shows the nice taper. Probably 85% of the spinners I use are Rusty. Just vary the size anywhere from 12-28. What is the wing made of?

The wing is Organza a material you can buy in a sewing shop. I have been using it for spinner wings for about 25 years now. I have found nothing better. You have to pull the material apart but that is easy to do. It is just stiff enough to form a good wing but not so stiff to make it hard to cast. It is shinny and is also just a little bit kinky. You can buy it is several colors but the White and Gray are the best for spinner wing use.. Good stuff. Ron

Thanx for the info Guys.....next ones I try will be the rusty color.
Always trying something new sometimes it works and sometimes it don't.
