    Nice variety of colorful fish Dave. Very nice fly patterns. Those Bowfin are a nasty looking fish. Just curious -- what size hooks did you use on the white & black streamers? Dennis

    Thanks! I used a 1/0 Mustad 3366-BR hook for those two.

    Thanks everyone! Lee, I suppose any fish is edible, right? I don't plan to eat any... Bowfin (fortunately) have a reputation for NOT being a good fish to eat. I've read the meat turns soft and mushy rapidly once the fish is harvested. They are an amazing, interesting, and ancient predator. Very fun and challenging to catch, and they fight hard. I wish they were more common, widespread, easier to find, and appropriately revered and protected. Its unfortunate that this native species is often the target of folks who want to shoot arrows into fish.
