Default irst fish on a new rod

Well new to me anyway: 9' 2/2 Orvis Impregnated Battenkill c. 1957, beautiful all original condition with original sock and tube. Cool little removeable fighting butt and there's even a pocket on the sock for it; I love stuff like that. Got a Battenkill reel of similar vintage also. The rod is rated for an 8DT but I hoped it would handle a 7WF OK and it seems to. I really didn't need another rod, especially one this heavy, but it had been haunting me for a while so I figured what the heck. First fish on it wasn't much but later this cat put a nice bend in it!

That's a great looking rod. Unless someone cleaned the cork, it hasn't seen much use. Great pairing with that reel too. Nice to see the older rods getting used instead of being museum pieces.
Happiness is wading boots that never have a chance to dry out.
