Default Which Color Do You Prefer?

Hi Scott. Which color do you fish, the Skawala Olive or Motor Oil color?

    Bruce,

I did well with olive when I first started fishing the hatch; the patterns I saw were olive and, not knowing any better, that’s what i tied. When I started seeing the bugs close up, I realized that the colors I was using were way off

Didn’t seem to make much difference to the trout, though. I don’t fish water that gets a lot of pressure, like the Bitterroot (it gets a great hatch; everyone should go there, please!); on the rivers I do, the fish aren’t real picky. I’ll continue to use the olive flies I have because they work, but more and more, I’ll switch to the brownish ones.

    Regards,
    Scott

The olive appears as though it would also make a good sculpin pattern, too.

Yep; I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a salmonfly. I‘ve fished the hatch on this stream in mid-May; it was 3rd week in April when I took that shot, the bug was maybe 1.5” long and the colors were more subdued.

    The big bugs
