    The hackles appear to be wrapped around each hair wing, parachute style. Is that correct ?

    True, oldster. Frank Johnson thought it would match the "footprint" of a mayfly better then traditional wound hackles. It does take a little practice to get it right- like Byron did.

    It is. That’s what guarantees the fly always lands correctly. Also, more naturally imitates the legs being primarily off the side of the thorax

    there is a chapter on "waterwalker" fly patterns in Terry Hellekson's book "Popular Fly Patterns"
