hook - Dai Riki 075 #10
thread - UTC 140 tan
egg sac - Uni-Stretch chartreuse
body - Ice Dub Hare's Ear tan
wing - hen saddle (Wonderwing style)
head/overwing/legs - deer hair


Part 1

mash barb, start thread at eye




clean, stack, measure (hook length) a clump of deer hair; trim butts, take 2 soft wraps, tighten and let it spin








trim butts, wrap to bend




tie in Uni-Stretch, leave tag end long




wrap butt, tie off/trim; pull tag end forward/over, tie off/trim

Part 2

dub thread/dub body to head






strip fluff from base of hen saddle, separate some fibers and pull rearward




measure (gap width past bend), tie in, trim tip/butts






push deer hair back, surrounding hook evenly




pull hair back along body, 2 soft wraps 9spinning the bobbin to tighten the thread and a dose of wax provides traction against slippery hair), gradually increase tension, whip finish

Very neat idea for the wing. Was that your innovation Scott or the original pattern? Not sure how durable it would be but nice for smaller patterns. Thank you.

That’s how it was on the original. They hold up okay, better than Wally Wings, but not super durable.
