    Scott:

Can you confirm the length of the Kold Cutters you use? Are they the 3/8" long ones?

    John,

    Yes; they're the 3/8" screws.

    wow, have things improved:
first set of studs was Simms with a key to screw them in with. tough on the manicure. little lady paws lacking sufficient finger strength to enjoy the task.
just got GoatHeads with the dandy little thingy that fits in an electric drill.
zip, zip, zip, and we're done!
fly fishing and baseball share a totally deceptive simplicity; that's why they can both be lifelong pursuits.

"The 3/8" studs turned out to be perfect for my Simms Guide Boots, if your wading boot has thicker soles, you could probably go with the 1/2". Kold Kutter sells these in bulk for $0.08 a piece."

So, this article mentions aluminum might be better than steel. Are the goat heads steel also? Or are they aluminum. Anyone done a comparison test on the two?

Pretty sure all the motor bike studs are steel of one sort of another. Aluminum is more "grippy" because it is softer, so some favor it, but it is also going to wear a lot faster which is why the aluminum solutions usually involve cleats or bars. YMMV.
