Can we use crappie rod to spey cast?

Does anyone here use crappie to spey fish with? Can you show me a video if you do? Thanks.

Spey casting is a series of orchestrated movements. Those same moves can be used on any length fly rod of any weight. I do not spey cast but I have used the spey motions to load up my fly rod or pick up excess fly line that is on the water.

What John (sagefisher) said. Sometimes you just experiment. I know that I designed a specific and successful motion that I kept a secret only to read and watch 'my' designed cast in a few articles and youtube videos LOL.

To clarify somewhat, I think you're thinking "long rod = spey cast." In reality the rod length AND being a fly rod contribute to the extreme distances (and ability to mend at those distances) that spey rods are advantageous for. So no, one of those long crappie rods used for vertically fishing structure 20 feet away and derricking the crappies out is not going to do very well at spey casting, because it's not designed for any sort of fly casting. A normal 9' 5wt will be better if you're looking to learn the basic motion (a single-handed spey cast). If you want to learn to use a two-handed rod, get an actual spey rod.

Partial answer to your question:

For those who were there or recall reading the posts about it, JC brought a broomstick (an actual one) to the Fish-In at the DRC and we all tried, some more successfully then others, to cast with it. So, relating to your question, you can single handed, double handed or spey cast with anything. How well, well that's another story, LOL.

I am glad that you have mentioned JC. I knew JC from here for years but never had the opportunity to meet him in person. He is a good man, always willing to offer me casting advice. I miss him. I think you do too. Thanks for your post.
