    Default More leeches

These are leeches made from coot body feathers. Unweighted so they can move very slowly.

    Rick,

Cool flies. I like the color of the coot; looks like it adds a lot of life. We've got a good-sized flock of them on a neighborhood pond but I never find any molted feathers; lots from the Canadas but no coot.

    Regards,
    Scott

    Nice looking leeches. Coot, huh?

The guy that supplies me with duck feathers from OK shot a Coot once, years ago. Legally harvested. He saved the feathers, and tied a few flie with them. Had a Game Warden ask him once what feathers he had used. When the GM found out they were Coot, he started giving my buddy a hard time about it. My buddy said he had legally harvested the bird. The GM told my buddy about MPAA (I think that's the law), and that while my buddy could use the Coot feathers to tie flies, he couldn't sell them, trade them, or give them away.

Went thru some hasels with the government about the feathers. Finally were told that they could be given, but not sold or traded.
The problem was the person who gave them to me was someone that I had exchanged materials with.
Took about 16 months to clear up. Finally had to contact both US Senators to get some help.
Lots of movment in the flies.

    Rick
