    Default Hopper Buck SBS

Another vintage Wisconsin fly. Apparently a hex nymph/emerger; not sure where the name comes from since it's neither a hopper or have any bucktail in it.

    hook - Dai Riki 280 #6
    thread - Danville Monocord yellow
    tail - hackle fibers brown
    rib - small wire gold
body - dubbing cream (yellow optional)
    wing - woodduck flank
    hackle - brown saddle

    Part 1

mash barb, start thread at 3/4 mark; tie in rib, wrap to point above barb

strip off some hackle barbs, measure (gap width past bend); tie in

dub thread/dub body to 3/4 mark

    counterwrap rib; tie off/helicopter end

measure (tips to tail) a wooduck flank; tie in/trim

Nice tie For hex "hatchers" i would add a foam wing on top of the wood duck and under the soft hackle.. My hearing is poor enough now that night fishing during hex time is a thing of the past ( i can no longer locate fish) but some of those nights were beyond belief . My sister in law caught a 30 1/2 inch brown one night during the hex spinner fall

Nice! I may have to do some of those for the Hex hatch next year!

I have a Hex nymph pattern that I tie up, but they're rather complex; this is an easier pattern.
