Default Hacklestacker Purple Haze Caddis SBS

Per the Tacticalflyfisher site where I found this fly, it's supposed to have the lifting power of a Chinook CH-47 in a dry/dropper rig. Kinda have my doubts about that but standalone, it's a pretty cool-looking fly.

    hook - Dai Riki 280 #12
    thread - MFC 6/0 purple
    shuck - egg yarn pink
    abdomen/thorax - Ice Dub purple
    wing - yearling elk bleached
overwing - Congo Hair hot pink
    hackle - grizzly

    Part 1

mash barb, start thread; tie in yarn and wrap to bend; trim (gap width)

dub thread/dub abdomen to 2/3 mark

clean, stack, measure (tips to shuck) a clump of elk; tie in/trim butts

measure (tips to wing) a hank of CH; tie in/trim butts

create a loop with the tying thread

    Part 2

tie in hackle, hook loop onto the gallows

hold wing down with a wrap of non-tox, wrap hackle up the loop = thorax width

then back down to tie in; tie off and remove non-tox

    dub thorax

    stroke hackle fibers back

pull hackle forward over top of thorax; tie off/trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

    Regards,
    Scott

Very cool looking fly! I really like the way you added the hackle.

I think I saw one of those in a tourist bar down on Broadway.
OK, yes, it is yet another good-looking fly with yet another good-looking SBS.

    Thanks,
    Ed
