Are you fishing still water or streams?

I have had luck with large, dark parachute patterns in slow streams. I tie them to resemble big wolf spiders. I use over-sized hackles, shiny side up. I also hang nymphs under them. The nymphs exhibit movement in the current (e.g. marabou, rubber legs, etc...).

I think the number I have seen is that 80% of what a fish eats live in the water not on it. Some kind of nymphs, wooly buggers, bream killers, rubber legged dragons are all good year around.

I always have good luck with Cap Spiders this time of year. I usually paint the bodies black and use stripped rubber legs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzZekzILGRI
