I've recently tried Eagle Claw fly hooks and am pleasantly surprised.
To me they are perfectly acceptable, made in the U.S.A. and much less expensive.
Good for them. Go U.S.A.

Single biggest virtue is they are cheap. Not my sole criteria when choosing hooks.
I have been using Eagle Claw for several years, never had a problem with the quality, they are sharp, well formed and made in the USA. And they are a good financial value. I have never quite determined the bias against them.

Uncle Jesse; I think your quote from Mark Twain says it all. The imported hooks cost twice as much.
They must be twice as good.
I have only used Eagle Claws for lake fishing. Are you tying flies with them? I would appreciate your advising which Eagle Claws you are using for fly tying, if so, and it's equivalent in Mustad, Tiemco, Daiichi, etc. Thank you
Took a flyer on some of their dry fly hooks online about 10 years ago; pretty much worthless in anything smaller than a #14 because of the (lack of sufficient) gap, due to eyes that were way too big. Hopefully they've improved their quality; based on the recommendations here, it sounds like they have.

Scott
The only ones I use for fly tying are the Aberdeen Style Crappie hook. I've got them up to size 3/0 use them for both top water and subsurface flies. I'll also use some of their jig hooks, straight shanked worm hooks and weedless hooks. Never had an issue with them and they are sharp.
The Billy Pate saltwater hooks are pretty decent

I've been using Eagle Claws for years. Never had an issue with them. The fish can't see the brand name, and don't care.
