    Default should I fish it?

A good friend has invited me to go trolling with him for either salmon or pike depending on the conditions being safe for his 14 foot boat on Lake Michigan. Trolling is really my least favorite way to fish but I said yes. Then I tied this. Should I bring it or just leave it at home. It's on a 6x long #2 hook and about 3 inches long. I have no idea how deep it will dive with that plastic bill.IMGP0033.jpg

Why not give it a try? Actually it looks like it could be a very good fly. Trolling is a really good way to locate fish. Depending on how fast your friend trolls, the fly could be very effective. What's it going to hurt?

Good luck and keep safe, those lakes can really blow up a storm fast.

Whenever I have a question like that, I ask myself what will it cost to bring the item along? The answer is almost always zero, so I always try to come prepared. At the very least, you will learn something about the pattern that you can use later at the bench. Bring it along, but never bring just one of any fly as that will be the most effective pattern which you will loose at the least opportune time. Just my two cents worth.

I've found that the only way to determine if a particular fly will catch fish is to tie it on and get it in the water. Otherwise no fly seems to work .

Since you plan to troll it, I would put a swivel between the leader and the tippet in case it spins.
Speaking of trolling, nah, you're much too nice.

Trouts don't live in ugly places.

A friend is not who knows you the longest, but the one who came and never left your side.

I'm with the others, bring it and try it. Let us know how it turned out.

Never go trolling with someone who carefully stays clear of all weed beds and snags so as not to lose expensive crankbaits. Five hours of slow boat ride followed by working on an outboard in the parking lot. I hate working on spring loaded mechanisms I didn't take apart myself. I still don't know if it's back together right but it works again so it probably is.
