    Default Trout and Drought

The latest information about snowpack levels in some of my favorite drainages has prompted me to think of alternative fishing venues here in Washington this Summer. Looks like it might be a year for warm-water species and more saltwater fishing. Is there any place within a day's drive from Seattle that has decent snowpack? Just trying to figure out all the options as I have a feeling we will see more closures of fisheries this year.

    thanks all.

I wish we could send you folks in the west the wet stuff we've been getting here. It rains/or wet snows here 3-4 days a week. Last year we had the 2nd high precip missing highest by a couple inchs. Made up for it in Jan though. My favorite Smallmouth river was the color of choclate milk most of the time.

Tim... thanks for the link. I checked out the Oregon basins and you folks look pretty dry too! Maybe Northern California this year?

There are no fish in northern California. But if you get down this way, look me up, and I will show you where they aren't. Snowpack was great right up until this past two weeks of 70s and 80s.

Fish Northern California. I don't think so. As I live only about 20 miles from California I used to fish the Northern parts quite often - Until they raised the price of their non-residence fishing license to just above ridiculous. While I can afford it, there comes a time when a person just says it ain't worth it and quits. Such is California fishing and me.
