    Default Nalle Puh (Winnie the Pooh) SBS



    Considered the national fly of Finland, created by Simo Lumme; a caddis imitation. Original is tied with a bear hair wing; smoke 'em if you've got 'em, I guess.

    hook - Dai Riki 300 #10
    thread - UTC 140 burnt orange
    rib - x-small wire gold
    body - dubbing orange/yellow rug yarn mixed with hare's ear
    rear hackle - brown (undersize by 2)
    front hackle - brown
    wing - Congo Hiar tan


    Part 1

    mash barb, start thread, tie in rib, wrap to bend




    tie in a hank of CH at 3/4 mark, x-wrap, post, brush a little Sally at the base to set








    dub thread, dub body






    tie in rear hackle, wrap to bend

    Part 2

    capture hackle tip with wire, continue ribbing thru body; helicopter end, cover with thread






    tie in front hackle; wrap, tie off/trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN






    trim wing

    Wow, Scott, another outstanding fly. I can see some of these in the box for October Caddis. Might be size 6 or 8, and in September. October Caddis happen early in Wyoming.

    Nice tie. That's a blast from the past for me. I tied some up year's ago when it came up in discussion on the FF@ list. If I remember correctly it was designed to be fished in riffle water. First time I used one I caught two browns, 16 and 18 inches on the West Branch of the Delaware. Also learned not to forget my net and never lip a large trout to land one. It was a staple in my box for several years catching its share of browns, brookies and local sunfish. Then other patterns took its place in my fly box. I think I'll tie some new ones up over the winter, and see if it still works as well as it did the first time around. This is what my version looked like.
