I am about as addicted to flash as anyone I know, but the lack of flash on this nymph gives it an assassin look, a fly that goes out and really kills the fish.

Is this just a general searching nymph, Scott?

    Bruce,

I'm guessing (never fished the Greys) it's a stonefly imitation; shares a bit of DNA with Art Flick's Stonefly Creeper. If anyone knows better, please chime in.

Felt like playing around with the Creeper so I borrowed parts from the Puget Bug and Grey Runt.

I know it wouldn't be the exact pattern, but wrapping the black ribbing thread over the goose quill would make it more durable. I like it--nicely tied.

Another nice tie!! You've posted several with the goose barbs pulled over the top of the fly - would adding a coat of Sally hansens or something to seal them and give them a shiny back cause it any problems???

Not sure how well the goose would soak up SHHAN; maybe something like thinned Goop/vinyl cement. For re-enforcement, adding some wire or thread wraps over the shellback would definitely help. That's what I did on this variation of Art Flick's Stonefly Creeper.
