Check out "Our Man In Canada" Ian Roberts right here on FAOL. Key word him. Also, Hardy Canada is located on Vancouver Island. I am sure a google seach of them would give you and address and I know from experience they are very helpful and obliging. I believe their office is close to the Campbell River? Good luck, Jonezee

Victoria is a nice city and has some things to see. Bouchart Gardens is a prime attraction.

There is a number of streams on Vancouver Island, and a lot of them hold anadromous fish. I saw some pretty interior streams up there too. The key is to know whether the fish are in or the water is vacant. There is a flyshop in Tofino that that guides trips, including some fly-outs. I can not remember stream names off the top of my head and do not have my journal to refer to here at the office. Tofino is a beach destination for BC and can get very crowded, but that coastal area is nice to visit. The Pacific Rim Nat' Park is nice as is the Pacific Rim Trail. There is some major windsurfing done on the islanf at Nitnat Lake (amazing, I remember the lake but not stream names). There is salwater fishing to be done on the coast at places like Eucelet (near Tofino) and Bamfield (terminus of Pacific Rim Trail and home to a marine institute with a lot of Florida State grad students), lots of eagles and whales to see too.

There is a beautiful grove of old growth Douglas fir to the south of Nanaimo enroute to Tofino.

Be careful driving the roads out there. It is logging country and the log trucks have the right of way under their industry-bent rules. I almost got run over up there about 5 years ago.

Vancouver Island is bigger than you think. It would take about 12-14 hours to drive to the NW Tip up to the Harbor. There is some serious saltwater fishing (for salmon, etc.) up there, and if I recall correctly, that is a pretty big commercial fishing center.

I like the island, it's nice. The ferry ride from Port Angeles, WA to Victoria is nice. If the fishing did not work out on Vancouver Island, Olympic Nat'l and the peninsula streams would be an alternative.

I can not find a fly shop listing in Tofino. It may have closed.

Kauffman's Stremborn in Tigard, OR has a website, and may have trips up there on the island as well.

Why is that stupid red emoticon popping up on my posts? I did not select it, or need an emoticon.

    Hi Spike,

The Pinks and a few Coho are starting to show up on the beach's around river/creek mouths, by the time you arrive it should be on fire! The entire east side of the Island should be very good this summer for beach fishing...too much fun!
The rivers are low as we are having somewhat of a dry spell (did get a shower today however)and there are few summer run Steelhead available but some decent trout action is still to be had in a few of the rivers. Some don't like to target the trout at this time of the year as they feel it puts undue stress on them.
The action for Salmon is getting very good now, again by the time you get here the west coast of the Island will be producing many large Chinook(up to 50lb+) and the inside (east side) of the Island should also be good for some Salmon fun.
Good luck and enjoy all that the Island has to offer.

    Cheers
