    Default Rusty Bullet SBS

Another October Caddis pattern; developed by Joe Howell.

    hook - Orvis 1645 #8
thread - UTC 140 burnt orange (hot orange preferred; ran out)
    body - yarn hot orange
wing - grizzly hackle tips orange
    collar/head - deer hair
    antennae - stripped hackle stems

    Part 1

mash barb, start thread at eye

clean, stack, measure (hook length) a clump of deer hair

2 soft loops, pull tight, let it spin (surprised it distributed around the double wire so easily), trim butts

tie in yarn, wrap body to base of head butts

    Default

    Part 2

measure (tips a bit past the bend) a pair of hackle tips; strip stems, tie in (I've seen the fly tied with the hackle on top of the head/collar but like how it looks surrounded by the deer hair; your choice)

push the deer hair back; try to ensure even distribution around the shank

pull back tight, 2 soft loops, tighten thread slowly/firmly

whip, SHHAN (some thinned vinyl cement on the head improves durability), trim antennae

    Regards,
    Scott
