    When first replied to this thread I was trying to find out what the thing was and I added a little humor that may have caused you folks not to answer my request. I have tied flies for sixty plus years and never used one nor did my father for all his years. I see it has to do changing of spools from wood to plastic and perhaps changing of thread material.

    After made my last post I went for a drive and it dawned on me that it was a type of bobbin I have not or don't remember seeing before. Boy to I feel stupid.

    For those having trouble visualizing:



    I remember these from when I first started tying, in the '70s, although they had already been surpassed by the Matarelli clip style bobbins.
