As far as encryption goes, China cracked DES years ago. There were even a couple of hacker/cracker/phreak boards that included the algorithm before they were "persuaded" to remove it.. If memory serves, it take less than 2 seconds to crack a thousand-digit key, using a PC from 5 or more years ago.
