Default Whiting 100 packs and your great discoveries

    Friends:

Is it just me or are those Whiting 100 packs just the greatest idea?

What other great things (in out FF realm) have you discovered that I have yet to see?

I don't think so. Can think of at least a few hackle products that are better overall buys. Try Conranch Hackle or Collins Hackle.

    Hi Migs,

I like the Whiting 100 packs myself and have to admit that I have used them in the past BUT I would urge you to pay attention to Castwell and tyeflies. Conranch hackle is the greatest stuff going. Do yourself a big favor and give Denny a call. Try a cape or two and you will never go anywhere else for hackle. Having Denny select a cape for you is like having your most knowledgable fly tying friend pick your hackle. Try it, you'll love it. 8T

On a scale of one to ten, in customer service, quality and selection, Denny ranks 11. If (not a chance) he doesn't have what you want,,, he will offer to 'grow' it for you! I DO know at least one time it happened. Remember,,,
"'Hackle', it's not just for keeping chickens warm anymore!" jc

    Migs,

I have used the Whiting 100 pack and like the convenience, but I did not find them to be of the quaility one would find on a cape.

As for Conranch hackle. Denny is top tier in my book. Sometime back I wrote about soft-hackle flies and Denny responded that his JV hens are an excellent subsitute for partridge feathers. I went to his website and picked out the colors I needed and contacted Denny. He told me the feathers would be in the mail that day and I told him that I could not have a check ready for mailing until that night. He replied "let the feathers and the money cross in the mail." He is honest and trusting as the day is long. The feathers on his JV hens are exceptional. The action the hackle produces on soft-hackle flies makes the flies come alive!

    Hi Folks,

That Denny produces hackle that is on
par with the best is not the only factor.
Denny also will take the time to advise you
as to which hackle is suited for what you
are tying. Not what is the most expensive,
but what works.*G* An accomplished tyer and
personable individual as many here can
attest to. His customer service is second
to none and he'll even share his hush puppy
recipe with you.*G* Warm regards, Jim

Just don't ask Denny HOW he "makes" capes. He just may show you and that will surely make you into an instant vegitarian.
