Default Smoky Mountain Forked Tail SBS

Another product of Southern Appalachia; they sure do like their dries (I use the term dry loosely here - even heavily hackled, this one's probably only good for a couple drifts, cool looking, though) orange or yellow. I've seen it tied with orange floss or Aussie possum dubbing; I found a bag of Smoky Orange Scintilla (which I don't think I've opened since I bought it sometime in the 90's) - ignoring the serendipitous implications would be foolish.

    tail - goose biots tan
    abdomen - dubbing orange
    wing - goose biots tan
    hackle - grizzly/brown

    Part 1

Mash down barb, start thread; a small bump in the rear will help set the biot tail

clean, stack, measure (shank length) a pair of biots (convexly opposed); tie in/trim butts

    dub body to 2/3 mark

    repeat the biot thing

I fished that fly a few time the past two years in the Smokies. Fly does work well but it was another pattern called the Thunder head that really caught all the fish. Believe it or not wet flies worked great and so did Woolly Buggers with some sparkle. In the smokies you mainly catch Rainbows in a lot of area's Even though there are Brookies.
