That is a nice video with some helpful techniques I've never seen. But, I've been wondering, why can't you just buy some black or nickel beads?

LC, I agree and even said so, seems like people like to make things more difficult than they need to be.

Just purchase plain beads. Roll 'em around in your hands and then put 'em back into you kit for a year or two (or more) - I've got a bunch of dull beads... HA!

    AlanB,
Don't take this the wrong way.
Just can't resist "ribbing" you....pun intended.
Was just now watching your PT Nymph video. Have previously commented about your other two above, and how instructive I think they are.

    Here's the "ribbing":
You implied, in another thread, that reaching for a whip finisher, as opposed to a finger whip finish wastes time.......do you always reach for a bodkin when performing a hand whip finish??

LOL - It just amazes me that on the same BB page we have one person wanting to know how to "dull their gold beads" because they spook fish and then we have another tyer who uses "glow in the dark" fly tying material which also has a glow in the daylight!

Fly fishing and fly tying are two things that I do, and when I am doing them, they are the only 2 things I think about. They clear my mind.

Like I said in the first reply....use a black sharpie...it will work on both!

Here's an online tutorial from the Limp Cobra blog that shows how to convert gold beads to matte black using a candle and water bath:
