Salmon Flies on the Yellowstone

We've had these big bugs hatching on the river here, several miles north of Emigrant, for the past several days. The river is still running somewhat high, but it is pretty clear, and the fish are actively feeding.

In addition, there are a myriad of other insects hatching here now - other stones, caddis and mayflies. This is one of my favorite times of the year to fish the Yellowstone.

Under a foot of viz in Gardiner and forecast to stay above 10,000cfs for several more days, which most clients can't handle accuracy-wise. From a guiding perspective, this hatch is going to be a bust

There were some real downpours around here for a week or 2 at the end of June, but the weather has turned rather warm and dry since then, and not much rain in the next 15 day forecast. About the only thing to contend with now are the mosquitoes, but they'll be gone soon, I hope.
