Pretty basic fly; change colors/sizes to suit your emergence.

hook - Dai Riki 280 #6
thread - UTC 140 tan
body - 2mm foam gold
rib - x-fine wire gold
hackle - ginger (undersize by 2)
wing - elk hair
legs - medium rubber barred tan
head - elk hair

Part 1

mash barb, wrap front of shank with thread




clean, stack, measure (shank length) a good hunk of hair




trim to length, a couple soft loops and then pull firmly, letting the hair spin around the shank








trim the butts; tie in rib and hackle at point above barb




tie in foam strip (keep it thin, maybe 1/3 gap width); brush on a little Super Glue, wrap foam forward, tie off and trim

Part 2


wrap hackle forward (make it dense); wrap rib through hackle






clean, stack, measure (gap width past bend) some elk; trim to length and tie in






make sure the thread's about gap width back from the eye, push the head hair back over the fly




gather with 2 soft loops (check head width; adjust and re-wrap if needed) then tighten






tie in legs




whip, SHHAN (a dose of thinned Goop on the head also recommended)

trim out the bottom




trim legs and you're done (foam indicator is optional)
