    hook - Mustad 94840 #12
    thread - Danville 6/0 black
    tail - moose body
    body - turkey tail
    rib - tying thread
    wing - Calf tail
    hackle - brown/grizzly mix


    Part 1

    mash barb, start thread at 75% mark




    clean, stack, measure (hook shank) a clump of calf tail




    tie in; firm wraps, keeping the calf tail on top of the shank




    trim butts at an angle (hopefully better than shown here)




    smooth butts with thread wraps, crease up front with thumbnail and create a thread dam to prop wing u






    split

    Part 2

    post, lock wrap, post, lock wrap, set angle (brush a little Sally at the base)












    wrap back to point above barb




    clean, stack, measure (hook shank) some moose body




    tie in, wrap forward, trim butts where they meet the wing butts and smooth with thread

    Part 3

    tie in turkey tail fibers, twist slightly and wrap to 60%









    spiral rib back, and cross-wrap forward






    some wraps in front of the wing to create a base




    tie in hackles in front of wing




    wrap hackle (one at a time here, gives me the bushy look I crave; proceed as you see fit); tie off, trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

    That is a very no nonsense looking fly. I can see the designer think "I want a fly that will float high and not come apart after 3 fish." Another great SBS Scott.
