Didn't have any kingfisher for the wingcase on the Dark or Medium. Pulled out the Ice Blue Raspberry Koolaid and started digging through the feathers for something clean and white to dye when I found these:



They came from a flytying kit I bought back in the early 70's and over the years, not being needed for any fly I could think of, faded into obscurity until this morning; not strictly kingfisher blue in color, but close enough.

Hi Scott,

Really nice job on those nymphs! Atherton may not be a huge name these days, but he does have a lot of fans out there. Many of his patterns called for unique materials not commonly used even back then, like light or dark cree hackle, and Bali duck (Baikal Teal) side feathers. It's a shame he died so young.

A really good looking pattern. I also found a Atherton Soft Hackle that I really like the looks of and I would love to tie some up, but, fly tying and fly fishing is on a "hold" pattern for the next 4 weeks while I heal up from rotator cuff repair and bone spur removal 2 weeks ago, but, tie them, I will as soon as I can!

Nice looking flies Scott. When I was a teenager, I bought one at Dan Baily's flyshop in Livingston MT. It had what looked like blue raffia for the wingcase.
