    Hans,

    You always tie such beautiful and creative flies. I sometimes wonder if you come up with a general idea for a pattern, create a name for the fly then tie a fly that matches the name, or if you tie the fly and then create the name Inquiring minds want to know...

    Hi Jim,

    Generally the pattern comes first, name second.

    The odd time, though, an interesting name simply begs an equally interesting pattern.

    For the pattern in this thread - pattern first, name second.
