Does anyone have any trout fly patterns that call for a hot glue gun?
I'm not interested in egg flies.
Thanks

I used to use it for the shellback on scud flies like ...

Takes some practice to manipulate the glue gun to get a taper to the shell and to figure out how long to let the glue set before winding the ribbing so you get a nice segmentation without cutting into the shellback. Makes a nice translucent shell scud with a more precise cross section. However, I've gone back to less time consuming methods. I also did a similar technique for crayfish shells which looked pretty cool.

Some folks use hot glue to build/shape the underbody of a Zonker fly pattern, before they slide the mylar tubing over it.

Have seen an ant body done with hot glue.
Black or red marker to color the glue after it cools down a little, but while still warm.

You can get Hot Melt Glue in various colours. Barry Ord-Clark has several patterns that use this. One is his Mutantz, he also ties a caddis pupa and a streamer with it. I can't locate the later ones but the ant is here.

I've contacted him for links to the others and will post when I have a reply.

I found some pearl like hot glue, was white with some glitter in it, that I used to make up some minnow type bodies. Looked good at first, but it yellowed quickly....never fished them.
