Nice offer James. For those of you in need of closed cell foam, just go to the 'Dollar Tree Store' and get a load of it for, you guessed it, $1.00. You get a package of about 24, 4x6" pieces, 6 colors and 1-1/2 ml thick. I mean c'mon really. You can pick foam up at any big box or Wally World craft store for pennies. It's going to cost James more to mail the same stuff to you then for you to just go buy it. Sorry, don't mean to rain on James' generous gesture but I find it funny that I've always seen many fly fishers/tyers who are able and willing to spend a lot of $$$s on fly fishing/tying but look for bargains on items that literally cost pennies.

Hi Font. Good to see you back.

Yes! But what's the fun in that, LOL?

Is the foam you get in the hobby stores open foam or closed foam? I've used a lot of it over the years and it seems to absorb water after a few casts and sink. Coating with Sally Hansen's helps but it wears off after a few fish.

    Dave,

I believe that the craft store 'foam' is closed cell. Most often you find it in 8-1/2 x 11" sheets that are 2ml thick although I have gotten some in 1-1/2ml and 3ml. I've cut the 3ml to the size of a plastic box, glued it in, and with a razor put slits in the foam. Makes a neat little fly box.

Great minds think a like Allan. I used some cheap camera cases from the Dollar Tree added foam on the inside and a thick 5 or 6 mm piece from a doorknob hanger for a third surface with two side for flies and I made some threaders from a braided wire leader and some thicker foam.

    Jesse,

That's neat. Something like that would probably cost $10+ at any fly shop. I wonder: and maybe you've done this - what if you spray the outside of the flybox with Scotchguard or maybe a little WD40. Would that make it water resistant and easy to clean? Just asking.
