    Default Crazy Goof

This pattern is in George Grant's book "Montana Trout Flies", published in the early 70's.
It is attributed to an unknown "amateur flytier from the Bozeman area". It is similar to Dan Bailey's "Yellow-Bodied Gray-back".

The grizz hackle is swept back.

This would make a good hopper pattern.

Great looking fly. What material are you using for the belly?
    Trout don't speak Latin.

It calls for yellow yarn, but I used dry fly dubbing.
    Thanks!

Nice fly! Is that a forerunner to the goofus bugs that begat the Humpy?

Thanks TaB. I am sure that this one and several others were forerunners to the ultimate Humpy.

    TaB,
You made me go back and tie my version of one of Jack Horner's Goofus Bug.
It has been years, and I guess it shows. Not the best attempt, but it might work.

What's the difference between a Goofus Bug and a Humpy?

None that I know of. I think Horner should get some credit. Not sure most know of his contributions to fly tying.
    And you?

And what difference is there from Horner's Deer Hair Fly?
