    What do you think of the "tug cast" as a downstream technique?

    Just an author putting 'his' name on something that any worm fisher knows by instinct.

    Duck,, flip a small loop of line at the dry as it floats by you on the way downstream. let the whole works pass by the fish. The current is faster in the middle of the stream and you will need to feed more into it. If done right the loop will be ahead but off to the side of the fly. When the fish rises the lines pull will be from behind him, not in front.

    Now, you name it and write a whole book about it. That is what most famous guys do. One famous whole book could have been covered in one sentence. One which everyone knew anyway. Slack-line recoil cast, sometimes called a bump cast.
