Bi-Color Hairwing PMD

I like the darker abdomen color of a recently emerged PMD. This one is in the hairwing style. Instead of cutting the hackle even with the hook point, I use an undersized hackle feather.
Anyway, in case someone might be interested.

Byron, I use those Harrop hair-wing patterns a lot on the quieter waters out west and here in NY they are very effective. That PMD will work great in the Northeast corner of YNP and the BWO is a very good winter pattern for me in NY. Those flies are very nicely tied...

Here is one of mine...see attached.. not the best photo but you get the idea.... This pattern also works well for Flav's size 14 and if you change the wing material to snowshoe it will work in slightly faster waters too....

This is one of my favorites for mayfly hatches. It's a "good enough" match for most mayfly hatch conditions and it's reasonably visible and durable. I usually try one of these first and then try the parachute, comparadun, etc. You can also, of course, clip the hackle on stream.

Hackle size is tier's choice, of course, but the Hairwing Dun design is to use the sideways barbs as a stabilising plateau.

An undersized hackle may look nicer, but I prefer functionality over looks.

I think it is a special blend I got from a tier for Park's Fly Shop

The ribbing is just yellow thread. I thought you were referring to the dubbing. Sorry.
