    Hook: Tiemco 102Y #12-19
    Thread: Benecchi 12/0, tan
    Tail: Lemon woodduck barbs
    Shuck: Ice Dub, ginger
    Abdomen: Goose biot, dyed tan
    Thorax: Squirrel, tan
    Wing: CDC, natural
    Hackle: Cock, grizzly dyed dark dun


    Note: The Last Chance Cripple is a generic cripple pattern. Adjust size and colors to match your local hatch.

    Love the tie and the technique!! Been trying to find a good cripple pattern. Thanks for the demo, Hans.

    Hans,
    Great job! You got me to the vise to tie one of his PMD Cripples.
    One thing, his have a short hackle.

    I think he is about the best tier I know of. He not only has the technical skills, but is an innovator of flies that really work. His design and material selection produces flies that really do match the hatch,. In the summer, when he is tying, he takes a break and observes the water near the Trout Hunter. He really studies the insects and their behavior.

    Please post one of his PMD cripples. I know mine isn't the best, but I think it will work?

    Perhaps that is a more recent change. Rene provided a set of flies to be photographed for Flytier's Page, be it a good few years back, and the Last Chance Cripples in the set had barb length as I showed in the video.

    Hans,
    Perhaps not quite as short as I recalled, but I think it is shorter. Seems he would want a relatively short hackle for a cripple intended to be sort of flush in the film?
