Default How hard can it be to find some fly sink?

I have visited my two local fly shops and the local Cabela's. There I found about forty-eleven different brands and types of fly floatant, but not one bottle of any kind of fly sink. Apparently dry fly purists abound around here ! I'll get some on line, but I'll remember this the next time I see a "shop local" sign in one of these stores!

I keep a bottle of Gehrke's Xink Wet Fly Dressing with me. I use it when I want a non-weighted fly to sink just below the surface in very shallow waters or just above some heavy weed beds. Do a word search for Gehrke's Xink Wet Fly Dressing and you will find some places that sell it. The Fly Shop in CA is one of them but many places sell it both in the fly shops and on line.

Any sort of surfactant should work -- liquid soap, shampoo, etc. It's lot easier to get a fly to sink than to float.

I agree on MUD. However, a lot of rivers I fish have sand. I bought a little tin of MUD from Orvis. Worked great. Got the fly down then washed off as it floated. But it also took the shine off thee tippet or leader.
Only need a little bit. Here is some from Loon

The Brits use Fuller's earth for this (sinking and de-glossing leaders.) It's easily available on line by the pound.
