    Default Eureka!

I love those moments in fly angling, when something I read about, I happen to witness for the first time, and realize what it is. Fifty-Eight years old, and I still have many things to discover.

Was sitting on the back porch when my wife (She Who Must Be Obeyed, aka:SWMBO), brought to my attention a giant oversize "Mosquito" (her words, not mine), when all the piece fell into place in my brain. "That isn't a "Mosquito", I said with a tone of deep wisdom, "That is a Salmon Fly! They are called by that name, for they are the harbingers of the Chinook (King)Salmon migration upstream to spawn!"

It is not the same as catching your first trout on a fly rod, but it will do.

Now I'd say it's time to hit the streams!

By the way I used to love to listen to that song.

    Hey Parn,
Aren't those little lightbulbs neat when they come on? It's like a small affirmation that something between our ears still works.

Last year at Roaring River, MO I found a stonefly, I'd never seen one before and only knew they existed because I've chosen flyfishing. I'm so much more aware of things around the water now then ever before.

This sport is so much more incredible than the sight of a line sailing silently through the air overhead would lead one to believe.

If Salmon Flies are the prophets of the King Salmon migration, how come we have lots of Salmon Flies in rivers that have never had a King Salmon run?

I always thoughy that they were called Salmon flies because their body color is close to that of a very fine salmon fillett.

    OOps, fillet, not fillett.
