The Sparkle Dun flies are perhaps my favorite fly. I like the idea of a sparkly shuck on even a parachute style fly.
This is my imitation of a PMD tied with a sparkle shuck.

Is that just zelon that sparkles? I think it is interesting that there are so many shuck/tails that are mixed materials now, hackle and zelon. Do you think that has any merit?
Very interesting question. It may. I tie some patterns with the tails and a little sparkly material shorter than the tails. On this one, I wanted to stay true to the Mathews Sparkle Dun shuck.
I have seen a pattern which has a long trailing husk and then an extended body raised above it - probably the most imitative I've seen.
Neat fly, Byron, and, as usual, very nicely tied and presented.

The fish are always right.
