    Default Nevada Fly Fishing

Hi everyone! Been lurking about here for a while and love the information you all share. This is my first post, however.

My wife and I are planning our first trip to Las Vegas in early June. Wondering what sort of fly fishing opportunities, if any, there are near "Sin City". Would appreciate any info you might be able to share. Thanks.

    Royce,
    Good morning, and welcome aboard!!
I have absolutely NO idea about fishing in the areas around Las Vegas! But with the Black Hills right there in South Dakota, I can't imagine wanting to go anywhere else!

I agree. The Black Hills of South Dakota offer some GREAT trout fishing and I get there as often as I can. Unfortunately, I live on the other side of the state and it is a 6 hour drive to the Black Hills. I still manage to get there a couple times a year.

I too was researching Las Vegas area fly fishing. I was planning on Las Vegas for my 10-year wedding anniversary, and thought I might sneak in a trip somewhere.

Well, I ended up settling on Townsend, TN and the Great Smokey Mountains.

But this is what I found:

There is a fly shop in Vegas,
    Las Vegas Flyfishing
    7520 Washington Ave. Ste 140
    Las Vegas, NV 89128

I found some other information on the area, check out Toiyabe National Forest on-line.
Stream located in the area, Nevada county, and species info:
    Barley Creek
    Nye Co./Monitor Range
    rb,bk,bn

    Chiatovitch Creek
    Esmeralda Co./White Mtns.
    rb,bk,bn

    Mosquito Creek
    Nye Co./Monitor Range
    rb,bk,ct

    Pine Creek
    Nye Co./Monitor Mtns.
    rb,bk,bn,ct

    San Juan Creek
    Nye Co./Toiyabe Mtns
    rb,bk,ct

Also, from a google search bulletin board: "Go to [url=http://www.topozone.com:7a514]www.topozone.com[/url:7a514] there look up Carpenter Canyon. It is on the back side of Mt. Charlston. Rent a 4 wheel drive and go up there and catch cuthrought that where placed there in 1978 and still doing well. 45 min on Hwy. 1/2 hour off road."

It's not much, but I hope it helps.

    Hey there Royce!
To the extent that I'm qualified, welcome aboard. Tough to flyfish Las Vegas. Flies usually are lost on the backcast getting caught in those pesky slot machine bill receptors. Nasty business.I'd try Cleveland instead.

PS. As you'll probably notice later, replys to posts by me will probably leave you as clueless as you may have been before reading those replys. Nasty business!

Richard Dickerson's book, "Nevada Angler's Guide: Fish Tails in the Sagebrush" might offer some insight. Most of the Nevada fly fishing opportunities I'm aware of are quite a bit north of Las Vegas.
