Thread: wading boots

    Default wading boots

During the summer, I often leave my gear in the car during the day so that I can sneak out after work to fish. The heat in the car does a number on my wading boots. I've gone through a pair each of the last three years and I'm looking for options (and taking my gear out of the car isn't one of them). They typically wear at the top end of the arch on the inside. On most boots there is a seam that goes over the toes -- this seam is what usually goes if they are stitched. If they are glued, then the heat and moisture pulls the apart the glue.

I'm considering buying a cheapie pair of knock-off converse all-stars and trying barge cement and felt. Is there an inexpensive source of felt out there?

Sandals, and the simpler the style, the better. If you need to wear waders rather than wet wade, you can buy sandals large enough to fit over the waders. Either way, chances are the sandals will be pretty much dried out by the time you get back to the car.

get a pair of the sorel style boots with the felt liners. the rubber bottoms would be impervious to wet/dry cycle. drill a couple small drain holes and your good to go.

If you have room in the car - an old cooler with a frozen jug of water thrown in. I keep my reels in it too, to prevent the line from being destroyed. Just throw the boots in when you're done- keeps the car clean, too. The frozen jug of water isn't very expensive....lol You even get the luxury of a cold beverage. Google felt replacement soles, there's a bunch out there that come in kits with oversized soles, barge cement and sandpaper.
